Good historical tours fill up weeks ahead; the great ones go first. Below: the 10 to book early, what each includes and how they differ.
Cook Taiwanese classics, shop Dadaocheng markets, and meet local host Alex in a small-group Taipei food experience.
“The cooking part of this tour was great. Didn't see the initial walking tour and 'photo shoots' as particularly necessary and the taking of group photos for social media marketing was a bit too intense for my taste.”
Explore Taipei’s origins and Longshan Temple through folk gods, fortune rituals, Buddhist and Taoist traditions on a low-cost walking tour.
“Leo's explanation was wonderful. He did it almost entirely as a volunteer, and his enthusiasm was evident. Thank you very much.”
Cook Taiwanese classics, shop a traditional market, and explore historic Dadaocheng in a small-group Taipei food experience.
“Had a great time! It was a very hands on cooking class which I liked. You cut, chopped, and cooked everything. Nothing was pre-prepared. Also, i got to learn a little bit about the area and Taiwan! Would recommend this class!”
Taste Taipei street food, visit the North Gate, and explore Taiwan’s past on a friendly two-hour walking tour from Beimen to Ximending.
“Howard was great and catered to our needs and preferences. All the food and facts were great! Really enjoyed the history part as well.”
Explore Taipei’s Dihua Street, temples, markets, and 10 local tastings on a small-group food walk led by an excellent English-speaking guide.
“It was a very insightful tour with plenty of delicious food. I really enjoyed this tour. I was the only person on this tour and my guide, CC, was friendly and very knowledgeable. Her English was excellent. Guide books would not have provided as much information as CC did.”
Explore Taichung’s old town, railway heritage, street food, and sun cake making on a lively guided walking tour.
“Although we had to spend the 5/1 trip on foot because of the rain, the tour guide Shine vividly introduced the culture, history and local food of Downtown Taichung, allowing us to experience it in a more in-depth way, which was impressive. .”
Review this 9-hour Taipei tour covering the Palace Museum, Longshan Temple, Chiang Kai-shek Hall, Four Four South Village, and Taipei 101.
“James was a great guide, very informative and timely. Spoke English very well; he was always asking us what we needed.”
Taste Taipei favorites, hear old-city stories, and walk from Beimen to Ximen on this compact evening food and history tour.

Review of Taipei’s private 8-hour history tour, with the National Palace Museum, temples, memorials, pineapple-cake making, and private transport.
“This was perfect for me. My tour guide Jeff was great. He was very knowledgeable and tailored our stops to my desires and limited mobility. I especially appreciated his knowledge when we visited the national museum, he took me to specific exhibits and provided great history about them. Much more informative than reading the plaque,”
Explore Tamsui’s forts, customs residence, and museum with one affordable ticket covering Taiwan’s layered port-town history.
“Easy and cheap combination of tickets. Tamsui is lovely and the historical places like fort San Domingo and the little white house are very interesting.”
